Artists' Web Projects
Since 1995, Dia has commissioned artists to create original projects for the web. Chosen for their interest in exploring the aesthetic and conceptual potentials of the medium, rather than their fluency or proficiency with technology, each participant has created a wholly unique and distinctive work.
To celebrate the rich diversity of this fifteen year series, Dia will spotlight one web project each week over the course of 2010. Starting with Fantastic Prayers, the inaugural piece created by Constance De Jong, Tony Oursler, and Stephen Vitiello and working towards Dia's newest presentation by Cecilia Edefalk, launching September 21, 2010.

Ana Torfs: Approximations/Contradictions

For Approximations/Contradictions, Belgian artist Ana Torfs focuses on the Hollywood Songbook, a collection of very brief, powerful songs written by the German-Austrian composer Hanns Eisler in 1942 and 1943 while he was in exile in California. She elicited powerful performances from a group of very talented, diverse people singing the songs, and weaves them together into something entertaining and beautiful yet deeply disturbing and compelling.
