She is the author of numerous articles and several books, including a collection of essays, Six Myths of Our Time: Little Angels, Little Monsters, Beautiful Beasts, and More (Vintage, 1995) and the sociocultural study From the Beast to the Blonde: On Fairytales and Their Tellers (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1995).
