Born in Los Angeles in 1951, Barbara Bloom has exhibited internationally since 1972, including one-person exhibitions at Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus (1998); Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (1996); and Serpentine Gallery, London (1990). She is currently preparing a solo exhibition at the International Center of Photography, New York; Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin; and ZKM, Karlsruhe (2006-07).Robert Irwin consulted on the master plan for Dia:Beacon, creating, in particular, the design and landscaping of the outdoor spaces, and the entrance building and the window design. Dia held a two-part exhibition of Irwin’s work in 1998–99 in Chelsea, showing two site-specific installations, “Prologue: x183” and “Excursus: Homage to the Square³.
