Children ages five and older and their families join teaching artist Amanda Long on a tour and interactive workshop, exploring the connections between science and art through the themes of energy and entropy, and the work of Dia artists such as Robert Smithson, Joseph Beuys, and John Chamberlain. 1 hr

From the Hudson River to Spiral Jetty: Reclaiming Nature through Art
April Lee, Dia:Beacon’s arts education associate, and Maija
Niemisto, Clearwater's director of shipboard programs, will co-
lead a tour examining unique approaches to environmental
activism, with a focus on the work of Clearwater founder Pete
Seeger and Dia artists such as Walter De Maria, Joseph Beuys,
and Robert Smithson. The program will culminate with an
optional visit to Beacon Point, a site-specific artwork by George
Trakas. 1.5 hrs

Teens and adults will explore ideas of energy, entropy, and cycles through a short tour focusing on artists such as Robert Smithson, Joseph Beuys, and John Chamberlain. Using materials such as copper, zinc, and felt, workshop attendants will have the chance to experiment with conductors, insulators, and circuit building. 2 hrs
