Philip Ording is assistant professor of mathematics at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. He received his PhD in mathematics from Columbia University. In addition to his research in geometry and topology, he works at the intersection of mathematics and the arts. For over a decade he has served as a consultant to various New York-based artists, including Richard Serra, Anthony McCall, Peter Coffin, and Mary Ellen Carroll. He has co-curated two exhibitions on mathematical themes: Model Theories at fordPROJECT, New York (2012), and Proofs and Refutations at David Zwirner gallery, New York (2011). Currently he is writing a compendium of mathematical styles, to be published by Princeton University Press. He lives in New York.
