The date-derived numbers, when drawn through the cycle of computations and diagrammed in various ways, spur the generation of signifying constructs representing the flow of time. Lucy Lippard has observed that the content of Darboven's work is "the process of continuation--a process which takes time to do, which takes time as one of its subjects, and which takes the form of time (the calendar) as its numerical foundations."*
