The second in a new series of lectures at Dia Center for the Arts, 548 West 22nd Street, New York City will be held May 14, 1992. Stephen Bann, Professor of Modern Cultural Studies at the University of Kent will give a talk entitled, "A Cold Coming"- Brice Marden's Wager with Tradition. Dr. Bann is the author of several books including The Clothing of Clio, on the history of taste and collecting, and, most recently, The True Vine: On Visual Representation and Western Tradition. In addition, he has written numerous essays and articles on modern and contemporary art, including a catalogue essay for the Brice Marden retrospective held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1981. The focus of Dr. Bann's lecture will be Brice Marden's Cold Mountain work, which is on view at Dia through May 31, 1992. He will discuss these paintings, etchings and drawings in relation to Marden's earlier work.
