Position summary
Dia Art Foundation seeks a part-time, temporary Learning and Engagement Assistant based at Dia Beacon, New York. The Learning and Engagement Assistant provides hands-on and operational support for all of Dia’s Beacon-based programmatic initiatives. The position reports to the Director of Learning and Engagement and supports a range of programmatic tasks associated with teen, community, and school-partnership programs at Dia Beacon and in the Hudson Valley region, often interfacing with Dia educators, school and community partners, and the public. The position is anticipated to be engaged through May, with possibility for extension based on operational need.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Attend and conduct hands-on support for Learning and Engagement programs, including youth and young-adult programs such as Dia Teens, in-gallery and studio-based programs for families and intergenerational audiences, and K–12 school partnership programs
- Provide general administrative support to the Learning and Engagement department as directed, including monitoring program registration, preparing tickets and program signage, assisting with participant sign-in and related check-in needs day of program, recording and logging program attendance, updating mailing lists, and writing program-related communications
- Provide hands-on program assistance as directed, including supporting the operational flow of a range of in-gallery activities as well as responding to real-time needs of program staff, artist educators, and participants
- Prepare learning spaces for programming, including ordering and organizing supplies, resetting the learning lab and other spaces, and setting up refreshments
- Document program activities and log images into the database
Education, certifications, and experience
- Coursework in art history, education, museum studies, studio art, or equivalent internship/work experience preferred
- Experience working with in- or out-of-school programming for children, youth, and families a plus
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Interest in working with people diverse in background, age, and learning styles and abilities, and enthusiasm for creating accessible and inclusive learning opportunities
- Interest in both contemporary art and pedagogy
- Curiosity and eagerness to grow as a professional and as a learner in a team setting
- Ability to work in collaborative, fast-paced environments
- Ability to work independently and actively incorporate feedback
- Clear and proactive communicator
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with both Mac and PC platforms
- Event or program production experience a plus
Working conditions and physical demands
- This is an hourly, part-time, temporary position based at Dia Beacon in Beacon, New York. Standard working hours are 16 per week (over two days), with additional hours based on program needs; Saturday availability is required
- Significant computer work that may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications
- Occasional lifting, bending, pulling, collating, and filing, some of which could be heavy (up to 15 lbs.) or require the use of carts
