Dia Art Foundation Launches Free Digital Guide Featuring All Eleven of the Institution’s Sites and Locations

Dia Joins More Than 150 Cultural Institutions Around the World on the Bloomberg Connects App

February 20, 2023, New York, NY – Dia Art Foundation has launched a digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and culture app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, allows visitors to access Dia’s collections and exhibitions on-site and off through photo, audio, and video features. The guide offers insights into Dia’s constellation of eleven sites and locations across the United States and Germany.

This mobile guide takes visitors behind-the-scenes at Dia with an interactive map, videos, and more. Visitors can use the app to access helpful information throughout their visit or dive deeper into their favorite works at home.

As part of this initiative, Dia has created videos to preserve and share the history of the art and artists in the institution’s permanent collection. These are paired with archival footage and audio recordings of various artists, buildings, and works for a holistic experience. Dia is proud to present a new way to experience its artworks, sites, and locations.

“I am delighted to announce Dia’s new digital guide on the Bloomberg Connects app. With multiple sites and locations across a large geographic footprint, this is a vital tool in educating our visitors about the different offerings at Dia that extend far beyond the traditional museum space. I hope people will enjoy learning more about our artworks and artists, and we look forward to adding even more interactive content to enhance visitor experience,” said Jessica Morgan, Dia’s Nathalie de Gunzburg Director.

Bloomberg Connects offers free digital guides to cultural organizations around the world. The app platform is part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ longstanding commitment to supporting digital innovation in the arts. Bloomberg Connects makes it easy to access and engage with arts and culture from mobile devices when visiting in person, or anytime from anywhere. With dynamic content exclusive to each partner organization, the app provides a range of features including video, audio, and text; expert commentary; and way-finding maps. Follow Bloomberg Connects on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for updates on new guide launches, exhibit highlights, and more.

Dia Art Foundation

Taking its name from the Greek word meaning “through,” Dia was established in 1974 with the mission to serve as a conduit for artists to realize ambitious new projects, unmediated by overt interpretation and uncurbed by the limitations of more traditional museums and galleries. Dia’s programming fosters contemplative and sustained consideration of a single artist’s body of work and its collection is distinguished by the deep and long-standing relationships that the nonprofit has cultivated with artists whose work came to prominence particularly in the 1960s and ’70s.

In addition to Dia Beacon, Dia Bridgehampton, and Dia Chelsea, Dia maintains and operates a constellation of commissions, long-term installations, and site-specific projects, notably focused on Land art, nationally and internationally. These include:

  • Walter De Maria’s The New York Earth Room (1977) and The Broken Kilometer (1979), Max Neuhaus’s Times Square (1977), and Joseph Beuys’s 7000 Eichen (7000 Oaks, inaugurated in 1982 and ongoing), all located in New York City
  • De Maria’s The Lightning Field (1977), in western New Mexico
  • Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty (1970), in the Great Salt Lake, Utah
  • Nancy Holt’s Sun Tunnels (1973–76), in the Great Basin Desert, Utah
  • De Maria’s The Vertical Earth Kilometer (1977), in Kassel, Germany
