New York, NY—Dia Art Foundation announced today the resignation of Director Jeffrey Weiss, effective March 2008. Mr. Weiss, former curator and head of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., assumed his post as director in June 2007. He has decided to return to a curatorial and scholarly career.

Nathalie de Gunzburg, chairman of Dia’s Board of Trustees, states, "Dia’s Board regretfully accepts Jeffrey Weiss’s resignation. We are grateful to him for his enthusiasm for and dedication to Dia and are sorry that this position did not turn out to be the right match for him. We are glad that Jeffrey has agreed to be available to consult with Dia on special projects in the coming months and wish him the very best in moving ahead with his distinguished career."

Mr. Weiss said, "It is with disappointment that I leave Dia. I believe the opportunity to steer the Foundation at this time in its history is an exciting one. However, it has become clear to me that Dia's most pressing needs will be best served by someone whose leadership is not primarily focused on curatorial and scholarly objectives, which have always been central to my ambitions."
