On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty (1970)Dia released Artists on Robert Smithson, the fifth volume in a series that builds upon Dia’s Artists on Artists lectures. This virtual event will include a conversation with contributors Mark Dion and Rayyane Tabet, and will be co-moderated by Kelly KivlandDia curator, and Lisa Le Feuvreexecutive director of Holt/Smithson Foundation.

Mark Dion was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1961. He attended the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program in New York City in 1984–85. Dion is an honorary fellow of Falmouth University in Cornwall, United Kingdom, and received an honorary PhD from the Wagner Free Institute of Science in Philadelphia. Recent solo presentations of his work have been organized at, among others, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth, Texas (2020); Storm King Art Center, New Windsor, New York (2019); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2018); and Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (2017). Dion lives in Copake, New York. 

Lisa Le Feuvre is a curator, writer, editor, and public speaker. She is the inaugural executive director of Holt/Smithson Foundation. Previously she led the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds; was an academic based in the graduate curatorial program at Goldsmiths College, London; led the contemporary art program at the National Maritime Museum, London; and was course director of the graduate program in arts policy and management at Birkbeck College, University of London. She co-organized British Art Show 7: In the Days of the Comet (2011), and has sat on various juries including Sculpture Dublin (2020), Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation Prize (2019), Turner Prize (2018), Hepworth Prize for Sculpture (2016), and British representation for the Venice Biennale (2015).

Rayyane Tabet was born in Ashqout, Lebanon, in 1983. His work has been the subject of recent solo presentations at, among others, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City (201921); Musée du Louvre, Paris (2019); and Kunstverein in Hamburg, Germany (2017–18). Tabet has participated in the Sydney Biennial (2018), Istanbul Biennial (2017), Marrakech Biennial (2016), and Venice Biennale (2013), as well as other international group exhibitions. His artist book Rayyane Tabet: Fragments/Bruchstücke was published in 2018 on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Kunstverein in Hamburg. Tabet lives in Beirut.
