D Harding on Robert Smithson

D Harding was born in Moranbah, Queensland, in 1982. They work in a wide variety of media to explore the visual and social languages of their communities as a cultural continuum. A descendant of Bidjara, Ghungalu, and Garingbal peoples, they maintain and draw upon the spiritual and philosophical sensibilities of their cultural inheritance within the framework of international contemporary art. Harding’s work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, among them Current Iterations, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2019); Through a lens of visitation, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne (2021), and Chau Chak Wing Museum, University of Sydney (2022); and We breathe together, Bergen Kunsthall, Norway (2022). Recent group exhibitions include Reclaim the Earth, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2022); 23rd Biennale of Sydney: rīvus, The Cutaway, Barangaroo (2022); and Matter as Actor, Lisson Gallery, London (2023). They live in Meeanjin/Brisbane.
